So your doctor tells you !

Question: Without me telling you what type of cancer or any other factors such as age and health what are the odds of surviving cancer in general.

Answers: Without me telling you what type of cancer or any other factors such as age and health what are the odds of surviving cancer in general.

I have terminal cancer - CML - I was told I had 1 to 3 years to live. That was 8 years ago. Doctors tell you the worst case in everything. The important thing, my friend, is to try to take care of yourself and believe in your own mind and body. I have people I love that love me, so I will keep trying to be okay. Good luck to you.

There is no way to predict your chances of survival without that information....however i would like to say that people have always beaten chances and odds to pull through as long as they never give up on themselves.

oh well thats sucks

It really varies from completely treatable "benign cancer" to almost certainly terminal inoperable metastasized cancer.

So there is no generallity without listing the type of cancer

There is no accurate way to answer a question like that. It would depend on the type of cancer, how far it had progressed, and the age and health of the person.

That is like asking if you can die from a broken bone. It would depend on if it was a little finger, a femur, or severely crushed skull.

Lots of people survive cancer you just have to believe you can beat it. Do what ever you can to reduce stress, treatment for cancer is very stressful so if you can find a way to reduce stress now and continue with it you will probably find you recover a lot quicker after treatments.
Good Luck with it all!!!! Hugs!!

Want some hope as you answer that question? Have you ever read Bernie Seigal's book: Love, Medicine, Miracles ? It teaches you that only you can answer that question. We live in marvelous medical times. There is hope. You are in charge--to a degree---and hope is a very STRONG ally!

well i can assure you the odds are really good i have had Hodgkin's lymphoma cancer three times and the first time i was only 22 yrs. old and i am now 28 yrs. old i have had my rough times trust me but i have had chemotherapy radiation and 2 yrs. ago i had a stem cell transplant and have been cancer free every since so your odds are what you want them to be. attitude is 99 percent of survival i think if you live life to the fullest everyday and tell yourself you are going to make it and everything will turn out just fine then it will!! you hang in there you can do it! good luck

It depends whether you have chemotherapy or not. The medical profession says you are cured after 5 years free of symptoms.

Of course, they're not God.
If you have been diagnosed with cancer , I wish you well, don't panic, get all the facts before commiting yourself to any specific treatment
The way you view it will make all the difference.

It sort of like how long is a piece of string?? Depends on where the cancer is, and wat type it is. But the MAIN concern for any cancer patient is if it has metastasised or spread to other organs. If this is the case chances of survival lower considerably as it likely to keep spreading even when treatment is given. Mum was diagnosed with kidney cancer last may. When discovered it had already spread to her liver and lung. It was very aggressive she pasted away 4 months later aged 60. Mum had NO symptoms and lead a very healthy life, x

That depends entirely on the type, location and stage of the cancer. There is no one-size-fits all prognosis.

Without the other information, it impossible to tell. Some cancers are much more aggressive than others. If you don't want to give out the information, you can read from a website yourself. Know also though, that 5 years survivability stats are based on procedures and medications that existed at least 5 years ago. Advances are being made steadily. The best person to ask is an Oncologist.

I have metastatic Kidney disease. Back when I was diagnosed with metastic disease, the 5 year survivability stats were 15% and that was 7 years ago. I am still strong, still fighting and still working full time.
