I went to a detox center to get off opiates... there I learned that I was pregna!

Question: They sent me home and told me there was nothing they could do about it. I am in my first trimester and addicted to methadone and roxycotin from a bad car accident I had years ago... I heard that it is unhealthy to just stop the opiates cold turkey, when I tried a week ago I started to have a blood clot... so I continued and I took a test.. I was still pregnant... where do I get help to get off these pills at a timely fashion without harming the baby...

First of all, you are correct in assuming that you should not stop cold turkey. Withdrawal will affect your fetus, too. You need to see a doctor who is educated about addiction; try researching doctors in your area who prescribe Suboxone. Suboxone might be useful to you for weaning off the opiates. You should be commended for even attempting to get off the drugs. It's not easy, but now you are doing it for yourself and someone else who relies on you completely, so it's very important. You want to be a healthy role model for your child, right? You can do it! Good luck to you, Sweetie.

It's kind of stupid that the detox center didn't know what to do. I had your similar problem 13 years ago. You need to keep calling around because there are treatment centers that can deal with this. I don't know what state your in but In Michigan the Semca organization could help, check to see if you have one. And It seem like the doctor you go to for your pregnancy would have some ideas as well. My child was born just perfect slowly getting off the medications. You are right to assume you can not just cold turkey , it is not even healthy for the unborn child. Best Wishes

Call your ob/gyn and find out what can be done to prevent you from having a high-risk pregnancy. Your doctor can find you a detox as long as you're willing to go along with the program.

Good luck.

You need to go to the doctor and reduce your does untill you are off. I personally would recommed an abortion because you have done damage to the baby already
