Drooling during sleep + acne!?!?!!!!?!


Question: So I drool when I sleep. I cannot help that, it's because I sleep on my stomach with my head to the side and I'm a mouth breather when I sleep due to chronic congestion problems.

I've almost always had acne problems on my chin, but lately more and more I'm noticing that it's happening in a pattern... and that pattern is, directly from the corners of my mouth down!! It goes like in a line!

So my only thoughts are that the drooling is aggravating it. I know that this is common, for drool to cause baby acne... so why the heck can't it be causing mine?

What I need from you all, is a solution... do i put vaseline on my chin and then cover it with something? (so as to repel the drool, whilst saving my pillowcase from the vaseline stains) Or do you have any other ideas?? If I just put like gauze or tissue on my chin, that won't work well enough becaue the drool will just saturate it, and will end up making things worse because it will stay wet.

Thats actually really cool. I always thought that saliva could dry out acne but I guess if you think about it saliva has bacteria in it and the mouth is the most dirtiest place on your body (belive it or not). So i guess it makes sense. Tyr brushing your teeth and rinsing with some good mouth wash before you go to bed. Also put some acne lotion on your face so that there will be a layer of protection while you sleep. Vaseline might make it worse.

Do you have sleep apnea as well? It might be best to fix the underlying cause rather than the symptom.

I drool in my sleep too. its really gross. But before doing anything on your own i suggest you go to a dermotologist and see what they can suggest for you to do. It would be much better to do that.

Try not eating late.

Are you British? I ask because you use words like "whilst", which has a few letters too many in the word.

Drooling is usually caused by an open mouth and deep sleep and some cause for excessive mouth fluid, which often is an internal problem that does not necessarily come from the mouth!

Sleeping on one's stomach is proper, it prevents the tongue from falling back into the esophogus, causing apnea. We also snore less on our stomachs.

What you think about your acne originating from your mouth fluid is probably correct. You have to wash adequately to avoid your pores from becoming clogged by impurities, which, your nocturnal mouth fluids MAY contribute to those pores becoming inundated by liquid and/or impurities of some sort, possibly even lint.

The best thing in any medical situation is to consult with a doctor. The real cause may not even be related to what is apparently only circumstantial evidence! Don't play doctor yourself, as in the legal field (I am not a part of the legal field), they have a saying: The lawyer who acts as his or her own attorney has a fool for a client, and I think the same applies to trying to doctor ourselves without professional evaluation: it is like trying to conduct a surgical operation on ourselves!

And maybe you need to talk to your doctor about your breathing and drooling, maybe he can help, and give you some suggestions.
