I have pink eye and I'm wondering... multi question?!

Question: My doc prescribed some pretty big antibiotic pills called Septa, but she said it's most likely viral... Should I still take the antibiotics? Why would she prescribe pills if it's most likely viral? I kind of want to just do hot soaks and see how it goes ... but if it gets worse I'll be kicking myself that I didn't take the pills sooner. I just expected eye drops or something Specific for my eyes. Online the Septa says it's for all these things like preventing other infections ... nothing about "pink eye."
A friend of mine said that antibiotics will cause yeast infection, so that's what is making me think twice about taking the pills.
Also last night when my eyes were just gooping up I was wearing my contact lenses, do I have to throw those out now? Or is their saline solution disinfecting them?

Well I'm not sure about the antibiotics causing yeast infections... i don't think that's true, at least in my experience, i take a lot of antibiotics...

As for the contacts YES if you have pink eye throw them out! wear glasses untill its cleared up. otherwise you will just keep getting pink eye, also wash the contact case out really well.

well, i had pink eye twice before... many thanks to my co-workers who had it and didn't wash their hands. but neither time did i get antibiotics. always the drops. the second time i just when to the drug store and bought drops over the counter. cleared up in a day or two. just follow the directions. I'm not a doctor so maybe your doctor saw something other than pink eye. I would get a second opinion. and for the contacts.... yes they are trash, unless you want pink eye everytime you put them in.
also, keep your hands washed or use the disinfectant, try not to touch your eyes, and don't go around touching everything if you can help it. it will spread very easily.

first of all, do not wear contact lenses when you have pinkeye! yes, throw away the ones you wore.
if it's pinkeye you should have been given antibiotic eye drops in addition to pills. i would call back and ask for them.
take the antibiotics. take them as directed and make sure you finish the entire bottle.
try to eat some yogurt everyday, that is good for the yeast infection issue. you can also ask your doctor to prescribe diflucan if you get a yeast infection. it's a pill that you take one time.
pinkeye is very contagious. make sure you wash your hands with soap (and sing a verse of old mcdonald so you'll wash long enough like on that commercial)
good luck.
