Any allergists out there , I have a question!?!

Question: My son is 7 almost 8 and has been on allergy injections for almost 2 years now. He started out going every week and is now up to every 3 weeks. Things are going well he has been so much better since having the shots.

He is allergic to pet dander, dust mites, mold and mildew, trees, grass, and tabacco.

We will be seeing the allergist next month but , he has been asking for a cat or dog for awhile now. So I thought I would try to get some input on here while we wait for his appt. so I can ask the allergist.

So my question is , will we ever be able to get a pet? Or is it not a good idea?

Thanks in advance for any responses!

if you are thinking of getting a pet then i recomment a poodle or a labradoodle as they are allergin free, tho make sure the labradoodle is at least 3rd generation

hey don't get DOG or CAT because they have bad allergists.your son get sicker if you buy a cat or actually dog.

I think it's not a good idea.
I'm not in favor of pets unless you live in rural environments but that's not the point here.

I can tell you my experience as an allergic. I've never had a pet in my house or my parents house while I lived there. A couple years ago, my mother adopted three cats. Now I can't go to visit her for more than one hour. My nose starts running after a couple minutes of being there, my eyes get irritated. And it last after I go away. Gets worse if the cats get too friendly and rub against my clothes and worser in winter because winter clothes catch a lot more hair.

My allergy is not severe. I don't get really sick, it affects my breathing but not more than a mild cold, I've never taken medications for it, I just deal with it until it goes away.
You son's seems to be a lot worse than mine. I wouldn't risk my son's health for a pet.

Yes, most pets have dander but you will find that cocker spaniels have the worst dander of all. Your son will grow out of his allergies soon as my son's did. He is grown now has had dogs and cats. I have a maltese dog as they don't seem to ever bother my allergies like the cocker spaniels did. Always be careful not to make things worse. Eventually I believe he will out grown the allergies and you can get him a pet.

I know how we love our little pets and we need companions.

Be sure to tell him when he get rid of some of the allerngines, that you will have a trial period of 3 weeks to see how he adjust and must take the pet back when and if it does happen. This must be made clear for him to understand.

My advice to you is to go the an shelter, CAPS Animal Protections Shelter and I cant think of the first name But you can give back the animal if you have any problems. They are a great organization.

Good luck,

Mary
