Is it true that once you get a staph infection you are at a higher risk of contr!

Question: Yes, you are at a higher risk of having more Staph infections.

The conditions that caused the first infection are related to your skin condition, skin organism load, daily cleanliness habits and environment.

Unless you change your skin conditions, habits or environment, you are likely to encounter the bacteria again with, most likely, the same result.

Its like living near water.....you have a higher risk of drowning than someone who lives in the desert.....unless you change your environment (locale). If you stay in the same area doing the same things, you get the same result.
It is said that insanity consists of doing the same things and somehow expecting different results.

I have had an MRSA infection in the past. I've had to change the soap I use, my skin treatments and incorporated the use of Hibiclens 2-4 times/week to keep Staph from becoming a more populus skin organism.
I've had no recurrences, but its because I changed my habits and my environment.

Hope this helps.

?????????? I would love to know this answer. Can't wait. I've had one in my back.
edit: I just want to point out that mine was from getting my tattoo. I had to go through extensive testing to make sure all I got was the staph infection. It was 5 years ago.

I would imagine not. On the other hand, skin staphylococcus is often a cleanliness issue. If you get funky, then get a cut, the staph that lives on you 24-7 is more likely to become pathological than if you're clean. The majority of people carry staph around at some point in their life. Usually it doesn't cause an infection. So in that respect, people who get staph may be more likely to get it again if they're just not keeping themselves real clean.

Also, you can get staph food poisoning, which results not so much from the bacteria itself as from the toxins in its coat, and the toxins it secretes. Same deal applies here. If you don't wash your hands b4 u eat or prepare food, you're more prone to get this

As far as an actual infection goes, generally people are less prone to bacterial infections after having them once, because your body develops some resistance. Staph aureus protection is partial and short-lasting, probably because there are so many different strains of this extremely common bacterium.

An important note on staph these days is that highly resistant strains, such as multi-drug resistant staph aureus (MRSA) are becoming more prevalent. About 10x more staph cases are contracted IN the hospital than outside. This ratio is even more exaggerated for these resistant strains. So be careful with that stuff, and make sure your doctor or nurse washes her hands. Don't be shy to ask them to wash up in front of you.

So the take home is, no, having a staph infection doesn't make you more prone to future infections, but keep clean, ask your medical providers to wash their hands, and don't eat at restaurants with "F" ratings, if you live in California. =P
