Open heart surgery?!
Question: Hi,
My husband found out this morning that his mom will be undergoing open heart surgery on Friday. We are really worried. I will be going with my husband to the hospital to be supportive. The doctor said something about 4 bypasses. What does this mean?
Also, can we have some extra prayers for her. Thanks so much.

there are several blood vessels that feed blood to the heart muscle, apparently mum has four that are blocked. The surgery she is having is called a coronary artery bypass graft. They will take vessels from other parts of her body, usually the leg, sometimes the arm, and graft them to the arteries of the heart to bypass the areas that are blocked, so the heart gets the blood it needs.
This routine surgery nowadays. It is still major surgery. All going well she will be home in 5 days. I had a triple 10 years ago. My friends mum had a triple about 18years ago she is 89 years old so she was 71 when she had it done. The best advise I can give is beware of infection ( MRSA) is common after the op I picked it up in the ICU on both wounds , Leg and Chest. Luckily my wife is a nurse so I had the best of treatment for it. Good luck
