You should take a day off and sleep then. I just take Advil Pm since its not really addicting. Or you can go to this site: http://www.well.com/~mick/insomnia/

I also heard a handful of almonds and a cup of warm milk also helps. For some odd reason I usually get insomnia on Mondays, Tuesdays and in uncomfortable places like hotels.

im jealous you have a social life, how do i get one?

melatonin works wonderful for me. all natural

I am older but have always had insomnia... I say don't drink caffiene after 10 am... seriously. and get some serious exercise - 1 to 2 hours a day. Then shut everything off and read at bedtime. Maybe that will work... I don't follow that routine myself (except the caffeine part) and here I am awake and totally exhausted but still awake....

Stay off the caffine for starters. There is probably something on ur mind and when its time to sleep u can't relax ur mind enough. I suggest u see a doctor. There are different things that can cause insomnia.

Sigh. I have the same problem..and I'm what - how old?
Luckily though, my mother works with natural medicine.
You should go to you're local health food shop and just ask. They have plenty of organic, natural medicine to help. If not, go see a naturopath or doctor to find the cause of all this insomnia.

try valerianroot pills. all you need is a couple and is all natural. they taste horrible but they get the job done. oh and wake up early with no naps and get atleast 45 min. of intense exercise.

First, cut back on your caffeine intake. Take one weekend, and don't plan anything but rest. Stop the caffeine and let nature take it's course.

In addition, there are some dietary concepts that indicate certain Omega-complex fatty acids help regulate melatonin and serotonin levels in the brain. I can attest to this theory, as I had sleeping problems a while back, and after taking Omega-complex supplements for about 2 weeks, my sleep patterns started to improve. By the 2nd month, they had returned to near-normal. Look for one that offers Omega 3, 6 & 9 fatty acids, and take one each morning. You will notice the difference.

As it has been said, "you are what you eat." Make sure you are eating right. A proper diet aids in producing melatonin and other chemicals in the brain to help induce sleep.

Exercise is also very important. If you make your body physically tired, you will rest better.

There is no magical cure for insomnia, short or long-term. Take better care of your body, and it will take better care of you.

And finally, there may be unresolved issues outstanding in your life, or perhaps the pressure of school itself is causing you to be restless and unable to relax and sleep. Resolve these issues as soon as possible to ensure a better balance in your mental outlook. Your body will follow along.

Good luck!

I know it seems counterproductive when you're so tired, but DO stop caffeine and sugary drinks, too. Even if you're still having trouble sleeping, give it some time - like 3 weeks. I've had insomnia for 15 years, and the only thing that's ever helped is : herbal tea (1-2 cups in evening), especially chamomile or anything that says "sleep"., exercise EVERY day (but not after 7 pm), and wake up EARLY every day no matter what. Then when you get up, spend 10 minutes in a really sunny spot (in or outdoors okay). Then, bed by same time EVERY night. It's hard, especially if it's time to wake up and you've yet to fall asleep, but it does eventually work (When I actually have the discipline to do it!) Again, you have to give it time, and that initial couple of weeks is hellish. With time, though, this method resets your circadian rhythm and helps you get better sleep at night instead of during the day. Right now, your bods just out of synch. Good luck!

No caffeine. Your nervous system is in overdrive. Go to your doc and have thyroid checked. My insomnia started when I was 16. I'm now 56. I manage it with supplements and meds. No one should take your insomnia lightly. My story is at http://www.fms-help.com/insomnia.htm - I don't know how old you are, but maybe your parents can help you find an OTC sleep aid, or take you to the doctor for some help. Or ask the school nurse. Also you can try things from the health food store. At your age, maybe one of these things will work for you.
