Mystery Allergy?!

Question: ok, so every time i eat certain types of food i get a really scary reaction....

for instance if i eat certain museli bars or pre-packages cakes/biscuits ect. i start to have trouble breathing, like my chest feels constricted and my airway seams to be about the size of a drinking straw...then my nose becomes blocked and i feel like im choking, its feels like anaphylaxis but im not sure if a food additive could bring on something that serious ??

suphur dioxide seems to be a re-occouring ingredient in these food, aswell as humectants...does anyone know of or experience something similar ??

The products/food you describe have many ingredients that you may be allergic to. You may also be reacting to multiple things.

You need to avoid those trigger foods and see an allergist ASAP.

Food allergies can become life-threatening, and you need to know what exactly you are allergic to and how to treat a severe reaction.

It sounds like you have allergic asthma, but you may be prone to anaphylaxis as well.

You could be allergic to wheat, oats, nuts (most prepacked foods have contact with nuts), milk protein, or any other number of things.

Please see your doctor ASAP for testing and describe your symptoms. People can have anaphylaxis to pretty much anything, even though it's usually to 1 of the top 9 or 10 food allergens like wheat, milk, soy, shellfish, and nuts. Anaphylaxis to food additives is not unheard of though.

that sounds scarey. You should go to an allergy specialist, and have allergy tests to find what exactly you are allergic to. (they can do that you know!)

It is probably a gluten allergy.

The most common way to determine what you are allergic to is a allergy scratch test. Go a doctor and ask about it. They'll recommend a specialist for allergies.

You sound like your having an allergic reaction similar to peanuts or legumes. Itchy swollen and short of breath I'm guessing for about 2 to 3 hours.

Go get a scratch test.
