Diverticulitis?!

Question: What medical tests would be used to detect Diverticulitis? Is it picked up with a urine sample? Blood Test? Ultrasound? I'm a little confused as to how it is found.

Because diverticula by themselves usually don't cause problems, most people learn they have diverticulosis during routine screening examinations for colorectal cancer or during tests that check for other intestinal problems. Diverticulitis, on the other hand, is usually diagnosed during an acute attack. Your doctor is likely to examine your abdomen for tenderness. You may also have a blood test to check your white blood cell count and an imaging test such as a CT scan to help visualize the pouches that are inflamed or infected. A CT scan uses a series of computer-directed X-rays to provide a comprehensive view of your internal organs.

Diverticulitis can be confused with other causes of abdominal pain such as appendicitis, pelvic inflammatory disease or irritable bowel syndrome. Diverticulitis can range from minor inflammation to a massive infection. Because diverticulitis can be serious, see your doctor right away if you suspect you're having an attack.

Hope this helps answer your question!

I'm guessing a colonoscopy.

I am not a doctor but I am going to school to be an x-ray tech and they detect diverticual with an x-ray or examining you with a scope depending with the out pockets are. but normally they show up pretty well on an x-ray right away!
