Bronchiolitis?!

Question: my daughter is 16months old and had rsv this last winter. she was born early with slightly premature lungs.. she got over rsv in like a week and has been a fine, happy healthy girl. well, took her to the doc today, and she has bronchiolitis! she has the nastiest snot (sorry) and is coughing and is on two inhalers and zithromax for the infection its caused. I guess my question is, is something she will just have to grow out of since shes more susceptible to this kind of stuff? and what are the best ways to help her be comfy and get well?

My daughter had this too a couple of times when under 2 years of age. I am including a link for you with some detailed information. Good luck to you both.

Sorry to say, but you will find your daughter will have bronchitis all through her life and its because she was born with premature lungs. The most likely times for her to get bronchitis is always at the time the seasons are changing, so be on your guard at this time, especially going from summer to autumn, autumn to winter and winter to spring. You will have to teach her this when she is old enough. Bronchitis is a terrible thing to have as the whole family suffers from a lack of sleep and I can assure you she is also very annoyed too from not being able to sleep.

Her premature status probably makes her slightly more vulnerable to respiratory issues. It's not uncommon for many babies to have respiratory issues when they are young. To make her more comfortable prop her up on some pillows while she is sleeping it'll help her to breathe better. It may be a good idea to use something like a humidifier to help her breathe especially at night. Keep her well hydrated but try not to give her too many dairy products for the time being because that will make her mucus (snot) thicker and make her more miserable. Good luck and I hope she feels better soon.
