Question: 27 year old female, 100lbs, 5'4"- over the last seven years I have had these fainting spells (here and there)when I get up from a sitting or lying position. I do not faint right away, but after I walk a few steps. It's now to the point, that I am injuring myself. Any thoughts?

There are so many possible explanations. It could be anemia. There are a tone of hormonal imbalances that would cause this problem. First make sure you are getting enough Iron. And you could do with gaining a little weight too, as you are a little underweight. If those two things don't solve the problem, the only thing you can really do is go to the doctor and have them run a chem panel on you.

Take care.

EDIT: as other people have said, yes, low blood pressure or low blood sugar could be the problem as well. Low blood sugar can usually be amended by changing your diet and eating more carbs (though if you have hypoglycemia, just eating more won't take care of it). Low blood pressure is not something easily monitored and changed by oneself without a doctor.

Low blood pressure.

vasovagal syncope? Also - have you had your blood pressure checked lately. It could be that you have low blood pressure. A lot of people get a head rush from standing up too fast, but fainting could be a low bp. I would have it checked to rule that out first.

I fainted for the first time a few weeks ago - scary. I couldn't imagine doing it all the time for years!

You really need to go get that checked out..could be nothing..its not so much how could injure yourself when you faint but you need to find the cause..book in today!

Hmm. You could be a diabetic. You are also very thin. Are you eating properly?

Could be something like Type A or B diabetes. If you're in Canada get it checked out... otherwise... well not having free healthcare sucks.
