HYPERTHYROIDISM-has anyone had a side effect to there meds?!

Question: My hubby had radiation therapy to kill off his hyperthyroid. This was in May 07'. He is curently taking Synthroid .15mg and has leveled off as far as his blood work is concerned. For the past month his right foot has been super swollen, and for the past week his left foot has become swollen also. Finally I talked him into to going and getting a script from the doctor for an X-ray (doctors request). He went and got his X-ray this morning. Just wanted to see if anyone else has had this happen or know of someone who has. Basically looking for a reassurance that it is not his heart and just a side effect to his hormone therapy - Synthroid.

Good luck

The simplest & fastest solution would be to request a referral to a Cardiologist asap. He will perform EKG, Thyroid panel, Echo-Cardiogram,& a chest X-ray. The most important of these is to rule out Cardio-Myopathy or other heart-related issues. To ease your mind, Synthroid wouldn't cause the swelling but, in certain cases, too little Thyroid might result in a lower heart rate which could lead to edema. Hope this helps! Good luck!
