I was diagnosed with high risk HPV as well. The biggest thing is that you need to get a pap every 3 to 6 months to make sure there are no pre-Cancerous cells. With the advanced medical technology they have now and the fact that cervical Cancer is fairly slow spreading, you can keep high risk HPV in check. Your body fights off HPV infections on its own so it is important to keep your immune system strong and healthy. If you need someone to talk to, feel free to email me.

i can hear the stampede of people running to answer this question...................................

Considering that 70% of sexually active women will test positive for HPV, I would assume that you'll get a lot of answers.

Don't freak out. I've had HPV for 17 years. I've had the surgery several times, too (LEEP and Cryo). It is not the end of the world. The surgery sucks, but it's better than letting it develop into cancer. Cancer sucks more. Do your research. Practice safe sex. ALWAYS use a condom. Yes, you can still get pregnant. Yes, you can still have children. Even if you've had them laser off chunks of your cervix (LEEP) several times, it does not affect your ability to be a normal woman.

Make sure you go in to get tested at least once a year (more if they find abnormal cells).

do you have gential warts my best friend has it doesn't affect at all she has not seen an out break at all since her doctor visit

OK, well in september of '06 i had my annual pap. I had a big thing in my family so i didnt go to my follow up, didnt recieve any call from my doctor. I know that no news is good news is NOT true, but i figured everything was fine. Got a call 6 months later (march)to come in for a follow up pap. Was not noted anything was wrong until this apnt. But i had to do my pap and the doc said that i had hpv. That she will give me results in 2 weeks to see if it cleared up. (yes cleared up, goes away, dormant, undetectable or w/e) came in, pap was the same mild dysplasia with hpv "effects". w/e that meant. Maybe should have asked. Got insurance, went to another doc for my 6 months checkup, i went in oct., had my pap done, normal. nothing was wrong. so i go again, to the same gyno, in April. So its not all that bad. But i will say, that i quite smoking for 3 months before i received my normal pap. So maybe that had a major effect on my results. Which it did, still not smoking. we'll see.
I know where you stand though. Scared and uninformed, probably with just a brochure about abnormal paps in your hand. They dont tell you much, just your results. I was obsessed with it. Everywhere i went, hpv this, hpv that. I got really involved in chats and forums. I am only 19 years old. i found out when i was 18. but 6 months before that, i was 17. so i would have found out then. So that was my 1 1/2 exp. Which that is when it usually goes away. Just read more about it. good luck and high hopes for the both of us!

I`ve been diagnosed with HPV since the age of 21.......
