Hives on Legs after shower?!

Question: After showering, and sometimes after sweating I get bad hives all over my legs and forearms. It itches like crazy, but I don't scratch it. The skin on my legs becomes extremely red where the hives appear, but the rest of my skin is normal in color, and yesterday my nymph nodes were swollen.. any ideas of what this could be, I haven't been eating or drinking new things, or taking any new medications.

Boy! That sucks! I've had a similar problem as I'm pretty much allergic to everything with fragrances...

I would think back about whether you have recently changed products of ANY sort. It could be fabric softeners, lotions, shampoo, cleaning supplies, ANYTHING.... You might not have changed something too, and because it is spring you might just be having a reaction along with other hay fever type allergies you might have... Did you get a new pet? Is something blooming? Did you recently *stop* taking a medication? I had a reaction once when I stopped sulfa drugs, and I have a friend who itches after taking *anything, like tylenol, ibuprofin, anything...

Some common things to be allergic to are, soap, BODY WASH (that's a big one), shampoo, fabric softener (a personal allergen for me), dish soap, laundry soap (I use All free and clear with success), lotion (Eucerin, unscented is generally a good one to avoid allergic reactions), perfumes, natural fabrics...

When I stay at people's houses, if they've used fabric softener on the sheets, I'll generally be itchy within a 1/2 hour. Same with clothing. Body washes get me really badly too, and scented lotions or perfumes, argh! Those are the worst...

Anywho, I would try to be aware of any changes you have made. I would be REALLY aware of current products and how they feel on your skin. If they even FEEL like they might be itchy, stop using them. You may have to have to eliminate things one by one to see which one is bothering you.

A quick itch remedy if it gets too bad is to sit in a warm (not hot) bath with some baking soda poured in. It feels great and stops the itching. I had to do this the other day, and it worked a treat! Anywho, good luck, look for new things, even minutely added in. You could also be developing a new allergy to something that you weren't overtly allergic to before. If it continues, I'd see a specialist...

It sounds like you might have fleas.

it is probably the soap or laundry soap check these out if not see a doctor

You might be allergic to your soap or something...or something in the air outside. idk?

It could be the soap.
You should visit a doctor

It might be allergies. The same thing sometimes happens to me especially during the spring and summer. Try taking cold showers (it helps to prevent the itchy feeling for the time being). And after you shower try lightly patting down with a towel instead of rubbing your skin with the towel. Are you using a new kind of soap? Maybe your skin is too sensitive for the soap you're using.

is your water tap water because you might be allergic to it . but sometimes when i shave i get those hives on my legs. that also might be it.

It could possibly be the type of soap you are using- my sister had the same problem. She was using the soap for a long time but it started acting up later because she had developed a new allergy and it was an allergic reaction to the soap.

Stop using any lotions or soaps you are using on your legs to test it out, and if it's true, ask your doctor to see if you have an allergy to anything found in a certain lotion or soap and he can reccomend another one that will work for you.

it might be from shaving, especially if your legs arent very wet or you arent using shaving cream. also, it could be because you dont wash off the soap from ur legs enough. that can cause hive-like rashes really badly... it has for me, at least. and if those arent it, you might be allergic to your shaving cream if you use that

What about the kinds of soap you are using, or shampoos? That could be doing it. Sounds like your allergic to something. Possibly cleanser used in your shower?

Hives that occur after exercise are are probably due to cholinergic urticaria. It is primarily a reaction to heating up. The reaction can occur when showering if you take hot showers. There is also an allergic reaction to water called aquagenic urticaria, but it is much less common than the heat reaction, but it is also possible to have both types of reactions.

I agree with littledo... Laundry soap, fabric softener, body soap, lotions, can all be 'activated' by your sweat. Even hair spray or gels, can run when you sweat. I also new a girl in college who was allergic to her own sweat, her legs would turn red first, then the rest of her skin.

The usual suspects are personal care products and the soap you use to wash the towels that you dry off with. It could possibly be that the heat of the shower and the sweating are causing your body to detoxify (a good thing). I try to detox at least once a week in a sauna. As I start to detox, I get terrible itching, redness and urticaria (hives)....I know that this is my body pushing out the toxins accumulated from the crud that they put in our food, the air that I breathe, and the personal care items I used (even though I am careful to use formaldehyde and paraben free products). It is really bad at the end of the first 15 minutes when I take my first break, at the end of my second 15 minutes it is less, and by the end of the 3rd 15 minutes I am sweating freely and the itch is gone.
So, you may be toxic (which would explain the lymph nodes) and not know it.
If you think it is just your personal care products, then try switching to something without formaldehyde, parabens or formaldehyde releasers. I like the Vanicream stuff, you can look for it at your drug store. I am including a couple of links. One is about the dangers of formaldehyde, the second will tell you how to make a sauna at home (I cheat and use the one at my health club) and the third is for the Vanicream stuff.
