Hosestly, as anyone will tell you, the worst part is the prep the night before. The stuff you need to drink tastes horrible, and you will be going to the bathroom more than you ever suspected you could! That being said, as uncomfortable as it is, follow your prep to the letter to avoid having to cancel the test and going through it all again!

You will be asleep or at least sedated for the test itself. You probably won't remember much, and will only feel discomfort if anything at all. Usually the most you will remember is vague, and you will wake up in recovery. You will probably have some discomfort and gas for a day or two, and feel sleepy for the rest of the day from the sedatives. As long as you don't have any bleeding or side effects, you will go home and be able to rest in your own bed a short time after.

The worst of these things is the anticipation, I know. Just try to relax - it will be over before you know it.

Good luck.

not that bad, you get meds so you really don't feel anything and you don't remember anything either... The worse part is drinking the crap...

my son had to have one this fall at age 13 and he did fine.

Don't be too scared. Have you had a pap smear? It's not any more personally violating than that. Sometimes the doctor can give you a mild sedative if you are TOO paranoid, worried or up-tight. It'll be over before you know it and hopefully it'll be a LONG time before you ever have to experience it again... I've avoided one so far myself for the same reasons you are dreading it..... Good luck!
