I have type 2 diabetes and havent taken my insulin for the last 5wks how come i&!

Question: Mr Peachy, cubby & dan have the correct answers here. The others ... range from slightly wrong to gross negligence.

Steph doesn't realise that type 2's sometimes also take insulin. She's telling you from a type 1 perspective ... they always have to take insulin. It's almost like a completely different disease.

MamaSmurf is talking about a honeymoon, which as far as I know only happens in type 1 diabetics. Type 1 diabetes is when your pancreas stops producing insulin. The "honeymoon period" is when a type 1 diabetic finally gets diagnosed and begins injecting insulin ... sometimes the injected insulin will trick their pancreas into thinking it's working again. So it will produce small amounts of insulin again for a little bit until it finally decides to quit all together.

You can't have a honeymoon period in type 2 because your body never stops producing insulin. Your cells just become resistant to it.

I'm a type 2 and have never taken insulin. We make our own. Depending on how long you've been type 2 and how severe it is, you may not need insulin. The biggest problem with type 2 is, our cells are resistant to the action of insulin. As long as your diet is low in carbs and you exercise daily, you can often get by on your own insulin. It's when the system is overwhelmed, that problems begin. Secondly, you can run pretty high on your glucose levels without ever knowing it.

hi type 2 diabetes does not usually require insulin its only type 1 thar requires it....are you sure your not type 1 because believe me if your were type 1 and not taken your insulin for 5 weeks you would be extreemly ill by now, i only have to miss it for a few hours and i start to become ill, ive had type 1 for 17 years, please be careful when missing medication it is there to save your life, diabetes kills you slowly, you may not be experiencing any ill effects yet but you will in the years to come so if a doctor had prescribed it you must take it...take care

It must be that you are not a really bad diabetic. If my husband missed a couple of his insulin shots, his blood glucose would go through the roof. He takes four shots a day.

I am also type 2 diabetic. I would not recommend that anyone do what I did, but I was having problems with the diabetic medication the doctor prescribed. It actually locked my bowls. I stopped taking it and have been monitoring my blood glucose very closely. I am doing fine. I stay on a very good diet. I am not a very bad diabetic. This worked for me, but it might not work for another diabetic who has to take medication to control their blood glucose.

Please be sure to monitor your blood glucose closely. You wouldn't want to go into a coma.

Good luck!

I don't require insulin either. My body produces insulin (I'm type 2 also). But, in my case, my immune system is overactive, and rejects the insulin that my body produced. So, I take avandamet. One medication to jump start my production of insulin, and the other to slow down the immune system enough to allow the insulin produced to do its job. End of story. Like the others, I believe that insulin may not be required in your case. But, you SHOULD still be taking your meds and checking your blood sugar.

type 2 diabetes is not insulin dependent diabetes
why have you stppoed

type 2 diabetics dont take insulin in most cases...if you do take it then you are now a type 1.....and if you havent had it in 5 weeks...then no, you are not type 1 and your body makes its own insulin. you would be dead if you were depending on insulin to live.

I'm type 2 also...and sometimes our body quits making enough insulin so we have to inject it. You are a fool for not taking your meds. You could be in what they call a "honeymoon stage" Go to your doctor. She could just put you on oral meds,....but do it soon Diabetes does NOT go away And you do not go from type 1 to type 2. If you are type 1, you are always type 1. If you are type 2, you are always type 2, but your disease can change with type 2, making it necessary to take insulin with your oral meds or even just insulin. This is very common...it is not an isolated incidence You can become dependent on insulin even as a type 2
