Does Acyclovir a drug use for the treatment of herpes virus have any serious sid!

When taken orally, acyclovir can cause nausea, vomiting abdominal pain and diarrhoea.
Very rarely it can cause anaphylaxis, which would only occur if you were extremely allergic to it. Or rarely it can cause acute renal faiure, fever or convulsions.

I found that it suppressed the actual outbreak - the sores breaking thru the skin....

BUT I had a feeling of itching under my skin at the outbreak site CONSTANTLY....
I had to stop taking them & allow the outbreak for that feeling to stop!
And - FYI & by the way - you're contagious during the "itching phase" so I saw no point in continuing supressive therapy if I was going to continue to itch (once I itched for 2 weeks! before I gave in & put the pills away & allowed an outbreak to happen)
