Has anyone read this yet about this asthma med?!

Question: http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/merck...

I think anyone taking this drug with concerns should talk to their doctor. I refused to put my kid on it and I am never more grateful than now!

yes I have read it. All medications have potential side effects whether allopathic or natural. Psychological side effects have always been listed as a rare side effect of singular. As with all medications you have to detirmine if the benefits outweigh the risks and for the majority of people who take singular the benefits do outweigh the risks.

3 of my kids have used singular..it was ineffective for them and eventually was discontinued on all 3...but the only one who had side effects was my youngest and for him that was severe headaches...no psychological..no night terrors...nothing of that nature.

Remember too Candy that the studies are conducted by the PHARMA companies. I would look more at independent studies and their findings. Report It

You know what? Allergies usually cause asthma in most cases. Deal with those firstly (avoidance!) and secondly administer the meds preventatively which most parents seem to refuse to want to do. Scarring from asthmatic episodes can lead to emphysema and it's important to prevent that. Report It

Research leukotriene inhibitors (this drug); here is one site:

  • Thats a little scary when it pertains to kids...kinda plants a seed in their head...(shudders)

As with all meds that we gove our children we need to watch them closely for side effects. My children havent taken it but I have and when I was on it I never had a problem. But its something to oppen your eyes

well I just read the article that you are talking about but the main thing that stuck out to me was the statement. in the 11'000 people in their study not one of them has commited suicide.
Singulair has been a life saver for my 4 year old son.

This is extremely disturbing! we have had this medication for my daughter whom has asthma! I still have a prescription.
These companies don't care about data..they are never consistent in research adverse effects till later! how disgraceful!
