Question about heart rhythm?!

Question: Here's one for the budding MD's out there:

What could this be? For the past couple of months I've been getting a single, strong and slightly painful heart beat on a regular basis (few times per day, sometimes few times an hour). I've been getting other, possibly unrelated symptoms of seemingly random muscles twitching, occasional pins and needles affecting legs or arms. Occasional dizziness too but usually associated with physical exertion or bending over.

I'm 26, slightly overweight and used to abuse lots of substances very heavily as a kid (though don't indulge these days). My fitness level is average.

Probably atrial or ventricular extra (extopic) beats. Get a 24 Hr. Holter Moniter.

Granted that you cannot control every risk factor for heart disease such as family history but you can definitely do something about your behavior. Age and gender also influence your risk of heart disease.

Skipped beats or PVCs are pretty common even in normal people. They tend to be intermittent and come and go at random. They may be worsened by stress or anxiety or too much coffee. Some people perceive them as uncomfortable and some people don't perceive them at all. If you are otherwise heart healthy forget about them but mention it to your doctor at your next exam.
