Hopefully you will be well and not need to worry about this. Remember for a lot of diseases, prevention and early detection is key so try to do what you can to live healthy.

Some public clinics of places like planned parenthood may bill on a sliding scale based on income so those may be options for things like pap smears and mammograms. If you are diagnosed with somthing like cancer, you should ask to see a financial councellor at the hospital. They can try to get you on medicaid or set you up with a reduced fee program (where you pay a % of billed charges) also, see below from American Cancer Society website.

But what you should try to do before that is find an employer that offers single medical coverage free or reduced. I believe it's law that any company with over 50 employees has to offer medical coverage. Good Luck to you.

Financial Assistance for Low-Income Women

Breast cancer testing is now more available to medically underserved women through the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP). This program provides breast and cervical cancer early detection testing for women who are uninsured, or in some cases under-insured, for free or at very little cost. The NBCCEDP tries to reach as many women in medically underserved communities as possible, including older women, women without health insurance, and women who are members of racial and ethnic minorities. Each state offers the program and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) provides matching funds and support for each state program. The CDC can be contacted at 1-800-311-3435 or at their Web site: http://www.cdc.gov. Contact your state's Department of Health for further information.

In 2000, the Breast and Cervical Cancer Treatment Act was signed into law. This Act enhanced the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP) by providing funds to pay for breast and cervical cancer treatment in medically underserved populations. This new option will help women focus their energies on fighting their disease instead of worrying about how to pay for treatment. As in the Early Detection Program, individual states must adopt the program to receive the matching federal funds.

Join the club. There are thousands of us who can't afford insurance. Blame the lawyers for their ridiculous law suits and the insurance companies for paying their CEOs millions per year and denying us health care.
