Bacteria infection in the muscles?!

Question: Has anyone heard of a bacteria infection in the muscles? My uncle was rushed to the hospital the other night for trouble breathing, sudden high fever and severs pain in his arms. The doctors don't know what's wrong with him, but they think it's an infection in the muscles. They are going to have to open his shoulder and scrape out muscle tissue in order to get a sample of the infected muscle. Has anyone every heard of this? His symptoms are a lot like TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome) but I though women could only get from tampons.

Anyways, I'm trying to research bacteria infections in the muscles and not finding much. I'm just wondering if anyone has heard of this, and what it is? He's in bad shape. The doctors said he's not dying, but it sure looks like it......

Bacteria
Staphylococcus aureus

Disease Mild to severe skin and wound infections; septicemia
Symptoms Pus-containing abscesses or styes characterized by localized inflammation, redness and warmth at infection site, swelling, and sometimes, necrosis of tissue; septicemia may occur if bacteria are allowed to invade the blood stream, possibly resulting in kidney, liver heart, muscle infection
Source/mode of infection Improper disinfection of open cuts; rare complication of surgical wounds

I also found a condition called Pyomyositis:

Pyomyositis is a bacterial infection of skeletal muscle occurring in the absence of trauma or a primary site of infection. The condition is rare in temperate climates. The diagnosis is often difficult to make and frequently delayed since the suppurative process is confined by the tense overlying muscle and fascia.^The bone scan is very useful in differentiating underlying osteomyelitis and septic
arthritis. An 11-year-old boy is described who presented with multifocal pyomyositis in the elbow region and thigh.Lateral blood pool images suggested infection with liquefaction within the muscles without evidence of osteomyelitis.

From everything I have read, it looks like an exact diagnosis and name of disease can't be given until they culture the bacterial pathogen that they take from your Uncle's shoulder. When they know what exact bacteria or combination of bacteria it is, then they can most likely give him IV antibiotics to stop the infection. Hope this helps!
