Should I go...?!

Question: My friend is holding a sleepover next Monday with games, movies, and food. FUN. FUN. FUN.

Except...there's one problem...

Her brother just caught the chicken pox. Well, we're not sure if he just caught it, because the spots showed up today. Anyways, the thing is, I haven't caught the chicken pox yet, and since chicken pox travels by air, I'm afraid I'll probably catch it. I don't know what to do...

I want to go, but then again, I don't want to catch the chicken pox and miss school, because we're going to an amusement park in April. What do I do?

If I don't go, and catch it later on, will it be worse?
Or should I just go and risk catching it?

Serious answers please.
I do not want any "Who cares" or "Your choice" answers.
Thanks. <3

If this is in fact chicken pox and you go you run a substantial risk of catching it. Why risk it. There will be other sleepovers.
You are correct that if you contract chicken pox as an adult it can be more severe than the childhood disease. If you have never been vaccinated for chicken pox you can consider it--a total of two shots given eight weeks apart. If you received a single vaccination as a baby you can be checked for immunity and be considered for a booster especially if you are over 13.

Chicken pox is a highly contagious disease. The person who has it is contagious about one day before the eruptions and continues to be so until all the vesicles are crusted. So if you go to the sleepover and his lesions are just crusting, you still have the chance of having the disease. If it's still a week before the activity, you could have a shot of varicella vaccine and be protected for life. It doesn't make any difference whether you catch the disease now or later, the clinical symptoms will be the same.

you should have been vaccinated.

do not risk it if you have not had the vaccin or the chicken pox itself. it is nasty nasty especially when you are a bit older when you contract it.

why don't you tell her you will host it at your house and her brother (however sweet he is) is not invited?!
good luck
and good fun.
