Those people are correct that say you are lacking vitamins and minerals. The most important one you can intake for your nails is calcium. If you get more calcium into your system, they will be stronger with less white spots:-)
I'm pretty sure it's from injuries like when you bang your finger against something.
I wouldn't really worry about it if you are. They usually go away and shouldn't cause any pain.
