hi huh, UC is a type of inflammatory bowel disease like Crohn's disease (I have that). It can not be transmitted like an STD through fooling around or doing drugs. It's either genetic or based upon a weakened immune system that a person is born with.

If you check out the Crohns and colitis website, they have the correct information on how UC is dxed, treated, diet info, coping skills, surgery info, as well as finding a local support group near you.

They also have a hotline and live chat run by healthcare workers and a live forum for pts. to post questions.

There are some newer treatments out there such as Remicade and Ilada (sp?) to get the UC in remission. Ask your GI if you are a candidate for it.
