Daibetes diagnosis,,,,what gives?!

Question: they make it sound like its all our fault, i understand that my choice is my health, but fast(fat) food makers should be held responsible for their actions, poisoning good people in the name of drive thru. i bet that you are finding more and more people asking questions about the "sugar" disease. its more and more prevalent with kids snacking in front of the computer, Xbox, Wii, Donkey Kong (i'm old school) or even the boobtube. my question is, is America or the world getting this disease at a rapid rate??? are we all doomed to die from too much sugar???? thanks!

It's a bit more complex than that.

True, there is a HIGH relationship to ones' eating habits, size, lack of exercise, family traits, etc., that will likely make him/her a candidate of diabetes. There are plenty of risk factors involved, and that's why we emphasize good healthy lifestyle habits.

Now, blaming the fast food industry is a whole other thing. They don't FORCE people to eat their food -- that's a CHOICE by the person doing it. Yes, most fast food is VERY bad for people to eat on a regular basis, and should avoid it whenever possible. But it's hard to make a sensible choice, or healthy one for that matter, when you need to eat there. Once again, I tell my patients to bring something from home (healthy choice dinner, weight watchers, sandwich, etc.), so they can eat better.

America has become the poster child for gluttony, blame, obesity, and lack of responsibility. If we get fat, we want to blame someone for it, rather than take responsibility for it ourselves. Kids are a prime target for malnutrition (look up the definition), because they are HOOKED on everything having a "flavor." They hardly drink plain water anymore because it "tastes bad." Yeah, right. So parents just push garbage, juices, chips, dips, and sodas down their throats, and then get pissed when they're told their child is OBESE!!!!

No, we're not all doomed to die from "sugar," that's not the problem. We're doomed to die because so many don't want to live responsible lives, and eat the way they should.

(rant mode -- turned off).

Take care.

Hey its YOUR choice if you go through that drive through or not, they dont hold a gun to your head! Diabetes, runs in my family and its a matter of making choices. cant blame the fast food industries!

In Australia we have a saying "Only in America" like when we watch shows like Springer etc - but also you have Judge Judy and other court shows because everyone wants to sue everyone - your right its your decision to eat it - sounds like you have diabetes type 2 or non insulin dependant diabetes - all you have to do is watch your diet - lose some weight and you should find that you no loner need the medications.

Yes takeaway is convenient and easy but its there to be had in moderation along with exercise etc not every day or every other day.

Diabetes is strongly increasing around the world, and if one gets diabetes it his/her own fault for not being healthier unless its genetic and runs in the family.

Its not the companies fault and just try to cut back some. check this link its calories of fast food and just seeing how much is n things can help you make a healthier choice if you must eat fast food.

If the legal department of Mc Donalds reads your question you may have a civil lawsuit on your hands. Your abysmal ignorance about diabetes and its causes is only equalled by your petulance accusing fast food chains of being the cause of diabetes.

If you are eating regularly at a fastfood chain THAT IS YOUR CHOICE. Nobody obliges you to go out. Stay at home and cook for yourself all the healtiest food you can find on the market.
Second : if you eat regularly at a FF chain what you should really worry about is uro acidohemia (to you: too much uric acid in your blood, causing gout) but not diabetes for crying out loud.
Diabetes is a metabolic disorder (probably genetic in origin) whereby a) some cells in the pancreas stop producing insulin or b) a certain enzyme is lacking in the bloodstream making the metabolisation of glucose impossible. In both cases this has serious consequences for various parts and systems of the body.
What America is getting at a superrapid rate is OBESITY, of which dabetes many times is a side effect.
Next time you attack a part of the American Industry so nobly get your facts right. Ever heard of Wikipedia?

Im 63 dont like Mc Donalds or eat a lot of fast foods but I got type 2 ............. dont blame the fast food market, keep an open mind and we may get a fix for this problem
