i just found out i was type 2 as well and started the same meds you are twice a day. my doctor said for me that during the day 140-160 is ok. when i wake up and before bed anything below 120 is ok. but i find that when im between 80-120 i feel ok. anything below im shaky and feel wierd. anything above 140 i feel hot and get headaches. always test yourself 2 hours after meals for accurate readings. my doctor said its best for me to test first thing in the morning and 2 hours after dinner. also to follow the low carb diet. allow 45-60 carbs per meal. 10-15 carbs for snacks. be sure to follow the exchanges and eat the right foods. my doctor also said for me, i dont know if this will help you, but to try to go for a walk or do some house cleaning after dinner. dinner is usually a persons biggest meal of the day and its easy to over eat your carbs. as a type 2 we can only exercise and such to lower our blood sugar.

my doctor gave all those numbers for me so maybe that will help you. the 248 sounds like you might have ate a meal and tested too soon. or maybe you ate something that you might have not known had alot of carbs to spike your sugar levels. i did that the first week. i hate two large ears of corn and mine spiked to like 250. i saw the nutirtionist later and got back on track.

Normal is around 120. Keep eating right and taking your meds.

I'm also type 2 diabetic but took a bitter melon herbal tea to get off my medication. You can too. Cut down on your starches, can juice and soda, control your weight to height ratio. Your blood sugar stabilizes about two hours after a meal. It is always best to eat many small meals instead of one big one. You should check with your doctor to see what numbers are good for you. Mine is 120, if it goes below a hundred then I get head aches, but that can be a sign of high blood sugar also.

Good morning,

You didn't indicate what your dosage is with the Metformin. If you've been on it for 16 days and you're still having elevated numbers, and are concerned, please call your doctor and schedule an appointment. For many people, it can take up to 3 months before a person stabilizes with Metformin in their blood glucose levels. Your doctor will decide whether or not you need an adjustment in your medication levels at this time.

I would recommend that you enroll into a Diabetes Education / Management class. Your nurse educator and a nutritionist will teach you many things that will be vital to you. And, they will help you to get a personalized diet. Yes, smaller portions do help, but you need to be eating the right combination of foods as well.

I hope this has helped you some.

It takes time for your body to adjust to the medication. Your numbers have already fallen from 248 to 155. That means the medication is working. Just keep eating right and exercising and taking your medication. Also check your blood glucose before breakfast and two hours after a meal.

Normal according to our doctor is: 60 - 120, but everyone is different. My husband gets shaky at around 75.

I really think you are doing everything right. Your doctor will let you know through blood work if he needs to change anything.

Good Luck with your diabetes.

Normally drugs like metformin have side effects and there is a problem of hyper or hypo glycemia which is not good. One of my friend has tried Episulin, a herbal epicatechin based formula which is doing good to him. He feels better and his dose of metformin has reduced to zero in about 45 days.

Be patient. It can take as long as 6 months for your med to bring your readings to normal range. Just keep in close contact with your doctor so he can make any adjustments in your meds he feels necessary.
