White blood cells in urine?!

Question: I had a urine test done and they said there were white blood cells...the doctor wasn't there so the nurses were nor sure waht to do....they said that this happens often and i shouldn't be worried but i heard them discussing it and one of them said just calm her down... they told me that the doctor will contact me if there is anything wrong. I just want to know what could be wrong with me? I don't feel anything unusual when going to bathroom, but I do go quite often...maybe once every hour. Thanx for your help. I just can't wait untill they contact me.

A few white blood cells are nearly always present. A large number of white blood cells often indicates a urinary tract infection, since white blood cells are the cells that fight off infections, but there can also be excess cells for no particular reason. If you don't have any symptoms of an infection, there may be nothing wrong, you could have a very mild infection, or there could be a source of infection that keeps trying to take hold, but hasn't quite gotten there. The high frequency of visiting the bathroom along with the high cell count is good indicator of a mild infection.

well, white blood cells fight infection, soooo you might have a severe infection. dont take my word for it though. im not too sure, sorry.

if u have white blood cells in ur urine it indicates that there is an infection somewhere in ur body...further test would have to be done to find out what the exact problem is.. u may not have any unusual feelings perphaps bcs of the of the infection or it may not be ur urinary system thats having the problem since urine is a collection of watse product from all over the body..

It sounds like you could have a kidney infection. If your doctor says it should be ignored but you feel uncomfortable about that, then consult another doctor.

It could be a urinary tract infection or kidney infection. If you have a fever or pain during urination, then this is more likely. Everyone has some white blood cells in their urine depending on how much urine we are talking about but if the concentration is high then the chance of infection is higher. In the absence of other severe symptoms I just would not worry. Good Luck - GDP

When you have a bladder or kidney infection, you get white blood cells in your urine. However, you can have white blood cells in your urine and not have any health problems.
