Mononucleosis symptoms include more than just a fever. The sore throat is described as an "extremely sore throat," and other symptoms include muscle tenderness, loss of appetite, difficulty swallowing, tiredness, fever (which usually peaks in the afternoon/evening at around 101-102 degrees Fahrenheit), a skin rash, and weakness (there are others in addition to these). Mono is a virus and usually effects young children and people in their teens. If you have been experiencing persistent weakness, sore throat, swollen tonsils and lymph nodes and weakness for a few weeks or more, it may be a good idea to seek medical advice.
Also, if you have had a persistent sore throat and antibiotics aren't working (in addition to the other symptoms) this may also be an indicator that you have mono because it can't be cured with antibiotics.
A medical facility will be able to do a test (a white blood cell count) to determine if the illness is mono. Although, sometimes a doctor will just diagnose Mono based on the symptoms and an assessment.

mono is a virus. and strept throat is caused by a bacteria.
Mono is caused by the Epstein Barr virus, and symptoms can go unnoticed for a while. Its also referred it as the "kissing disease" . They are pretty two different conditions, you would know if you had strept. Its very annoying to have. Its mostly identified by swollen lymph nodes, sore, scratchy throat sometimes accompanied by fever.

Mono is viral infection and strep throat is bacterial. Its possible to have both at the same time. But go to the dr and get test for both.
