Everyone in the United States should be worried about Alzheimer's disease because it directly impacts us all. More money should be spent to find a cure and ways to control this mind robbing disease. You can find a lot of interesting facts and figures by going to the link below and looking at the pdf file. These statistics should be able to help you make your argument for more research/money to prevent and/or cure Alzheimer's Disease.

As far as cause and effects go... Some causes are hereditary factors (a specific gene) and family history, age, and head injuries of any kind. Most causes are out of our control. Effects of Alzheimer's Disease include general memory lapses in early stages all the way to not being able to swallow food in late stage. You can see a list of effects in the second link below. The most heart wrenching effects are the loss of one's personality and memories, not being able to recognize family and friends, and not being able to direct oneself in the tasks of daily life.

Good luck with your project.

I really don't know what causes it, but my mom is kind of nuts about this kind of thing and she says aluminum has been linked to Alzheimers, drinking out aluminum cans can be hazardous and there's also aluminum in underarm deodorant. Sounds silly, but I've checked new deodorant every time i need it to make sure there's no aluminum in it.

I like the word aluminum.

The causes are still being studied, I have no answer on that. The effects are obvious...memory loss, new behavior patterns, life style changes, emotional distance from relatives and friends. The list is endless.
