Actually, the high blood pressure may be caused by the hyperlipidemia, as the fats collect in the blood vessels and cause them to narrow, which requires more pressure to push the blood through. That's why statins are so popular as medicines, to lower the lipids (fats) in the blood and help keep your blood vessels clear. On the other hand, the BP may be a separate problem entirely. If the doc offers meds, it is probably a good idea to take them. Blood cholesterol should be below 200, and BP should run in the range of 120/80.

As a side note: There are many different statins, so if the first one doesn't agree with you, ask for a different one. Pravachol made me feel very tired all the time, but Lipitor has worked well for me. On the other hand, my brother was intolerance of statins, they didn't agree with his liver, so he didn't take any at all. Most unfortunately he died of a heart attack at age 48, and IMO this was directly related to his hyperlipidemia. (It runs in the family).

Investigate, learn, educate yourself, and discuss with your doctor the best course for yourself. Good luck.

Hyperlipemia is the presence of excess lipids in the blood. It can be controlled through diet and exercise. Hyperlipemia can be a hereditary condition. It can also develop as a side effect of treatment with certain drugs.

answer is not that easy to answer, as hy BP is often associated with hyper-lip, but not the cause of it.
a more wider assessment of your physical status and lifestyle should be undertaken in order to establish tretable causes!
