Kidney cancer only accounts for about 3% of all cancers and have a very high survival rate. Like other cancers it largely depends upon the stage at diagnosis. The fact you were diagnosed in Australia does not change this. The stage will also determine if it is likely the cancer could spread to the other kidney, so this part of your question is difficult to answer without the information. However, if it were likely your doctor would have told you after your surgery.

Largely depends on case. If the cancer is detected early on, above 95% percent pass the 5 year survival barier (that is, get cured more or less). You can read more here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renal_cell_...

I have a friend who had surgery (only) 18 years ago.

She's doing quite well today.

I live in Melbourne, My mum was diagnosed with kidney cancer last May. There first thought was to take the kidney out however it had already spread to Mums liver and lung. It was very aggressive she pasted away 4 months later aged 60. She had NO symptoms and lead a healthy life. Your friend will be ok chances of it spreading to the other kidney are low. If surgery is successful the cancer is completely gone. If it spreads it is impossible to treat and is almost certaining terminal. Your friend has been very lucky that it was caught so early, all the best x
