Tonsillitis making me dehydrated (among other things)?!

Question: This is my third tonsillitis-related question...

I've been on my antibiotics for about 54 hours... I haven't felt any improvements, but I've heard it usually takes about 72 hours to kick in...

Anyway, the main question I have is that my mouth feels very dehydrated. I've been forcing myself to drink a "reasonable" amount of water daily (I would say average of 5-7 glasses). But even after I drink a whole glass, my mouth instantly feels very dry again. Also my saliva is foamy and even my lips are dry.

I imagine one cause is because I try not to swallow much, because its so painful even to do that. Does anyone have advice?

Eating Popsicles is still very painful, I'm going to try some new things today though.

Have you taken any pain relievers? Try some tylenol, or motrin, or aleve. If you've got a fever, that will dehydrate you, and the meds will fix the pain and fever both. There is no use suffering when there is something that can help. My idea was popsicles, but I see you've done that. How about ice cubes? Just put one in your mouth and let it melt, keep replacing them when they melt. If you don't like big ice cubes, go to Sonic, they've got the little ice pieces, you can buy just a Route-44 size cup of ice from them for about 50 cents. You can even break off pieces of the popsicle if you want some variety. Try some gatorade, it is supposed to help with dehydration. Or even Pedialyte, it's for kids, but it's designed to replace fluids lost from vomiting and diarrhea.

i suggest drink plenty of fluids until your soreness has gone.

Your dryness is due to the infection. Drink plenty 1/2 pint of liquid every hour to avoid dehydration. ANTIBIOTICS WILL KICK IN AND DRYNESS WILL GO. be of good chher.

I aggree with some of the answers given already. Get well.
