When will I get a pump? I'm a little confused...?!

Question: On Wednesday I'm going to my endo for a one-on-one training session/class for an insulin pump and infusion set thingy... What I'm wondering is, will I get the pump that day? Or will they have to order it or something? And if I don't get it that day, how long do I probably have until I DO get one?

Happy Birthday! (Sorry, it's a bit early, but still, 18 is a big deal! Be sure to register to vote.)

My girlfriend has a pump, and she told me that it was approved by her insurance before she went in for the training class. Her situation was pretty dire, and so they gave her a loaner to use until her own pump came. It was ordered for her the day of her training. Her endocrinologist wanted her on it as soon as possible, but he wanted his nurse, who specializes in the pumps, to look at my friend's body and her needs, and help her pick out the right one. Then, as I said, she got a loaner, and when she left the doc's office, she was all hooked up and receiving insulin. Her pump came about 5 days after her training, and they had her come back to the office to return the loaner, and to show them that she was comfortable preparing and placing her needle.

If yours hasn't been ordered yet, my guess is they will order it for you on Wednesday.

Good luck!

If you havent orderd one than they wont give you one but if you did they might help you put it in but instead of having inslin in it they put saline solution. They did this for me so i could try it out without worrying about the inslin and stuff. When i first got my pump they put me in the hospital so they could monitor me overnight but that was 6 years ago.

You MAY get the pump for a saline trial. I was a little different with most cases because I didn't do the typical saline trial. My doctors knew this was right for me and I didn't need to do that. Plus my BS aren't as high as most because my Type 1 is related to something else. This is very exciting for you. I got mine 3.5 years ago and I do not love shots. You will have much better control as well. It's amazing! Oh and one thing to be aware of...just because you CAN eat all the time, doesn't mean you should. I gained a few pounds because I was so excited about being able to eat whenever I wanted.

If you haven't chosen one out you'll probably do that on Wednesday, after that they'll order it for you. It looks like you probably won't get it on Wednesday, and that's nothing to do with your age. It took a few weeks for me to get mine after the hospital ordered it, but that said it had to be imported from the USA! Depending on where you are it might be less or more than that.

When I got mine, they gave it to me about 2 weeks before I actually got it connected so I could read the manual and learn all the functions and how to use them. I carried my pump around as if it were connected, and pretended to bolus and everything!! Quite funny, but really beneficial.

There was no saline involved in my pump connection, however I did about half a dozen supervised site changes with my Educator.

Stick at it, you're nearly there! Hope the pump works out when you get it, it was the best thing that ever happened to me in terms of diabetes control!

they will order the pump the day of the class you might get it a week later. My brother and niece both have the pump and love it. Good luck with it.Happy early Birthday

I had my pump ordered before I went to the class and they can usually have the pump delivered to you overnight.
