My Daddy... it will actually be 4 years ago tomorrow. this time of year is always hard for me. It feels like i lost him just last week.
My dad always had stomach problems(acid reflux) ever since i can remember. And he got really sick one week and actually went to the doctor and come to find out he was in the last stage of stomach and colon cancer and there was nothing we could do but wait for him to die. we were all so shocked.. and couldnt believe this could happen.

With his "acid reflux" problem ( which we now believe had to of been cancer the whole time.) he would be able to eat sometimes and put on good weight and others wouldnt be able to and get skinny and before he was diagnosed he was at the best health and weight he had ever been at and we were all so proud that he looked so good. He was 6 foot tall and finally weighed almost 200 lbs.

I was nieve about it all and thought he would be around for a good while longer and i had not much to worry about... i was wrong.

Within 4 month from diagnosage to death the cancer had spread from stomach, to colon, pancreas, liver, large and small interstine, gal bladder... and i never gave up hope on his survival still until it finally reached his lyphnodes. Right before he died he weighed 72 lbs. It was heartbreaking to even look at him... i could give you pages and pages on my journey through this short tragic stage in my life but i wont.. just know that this is the hardest thing i think any young girl could go through... i never wish this upon anyone.

I miss my daddy everyday.
And in his honor I will be hosting a Relay For Life fundraising booth at my college tomorrow.

Rest in Peace Daddy

my mother had breast cancer and she had a mastectomy and did chemo she has been cancer free for about 2yrs now, and now me and my family walk for the cure! good luck and god bless, u guys are in my prayers!

I know several.. myself included. The several people I know are on an internet support group.. its good to have a support group for someone to talk to and help each other. Maybe you could benefit from finding one to suit your needs as a friend of a cancer victim. There are many support groups in yahoo that you could choose from, they will help give you insight as well as their own experiences so you can better understand what your friend is going thru.

Yes, my maternal great grand mother - breast cancer, my grand mother had cervical cancer and then breast cancer, my father had cancer of the oesaphagus and my fathers sister had breast and bone cancer. No good. But they all fought until the end.

yes, I do...your friend is in my prayers

Yup -- me.

And I'm fighting to stay alive. 2-weeks before I was diagnosed with Cancer, my 71-year old father was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, which is causing inflammation in his brain, so he also has Mild Dementia. No one picked up on the signs, until I did.

I moved to California 15-months ago to be near him; I found him not quite as I thought he should be, so I took him to see the doctor. It just took 8-months to get him to agree to see the "right" doctor. That resulted in the diagnosis of Dementia, which eventually led to a Spinal Tap, which is how we got the diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis.

Two weeks later, I had exploratory surgery to check out what everyone said could not possibly be Cancer, not at my age. I'm only 44-years old.

Instead, it turns out I have Stage IV Cancer, either Ovarian or Uterine, they're not sure yet. They won't be sure until they do Cancer removal surgery, which they won't do until I finish at least 3-months of Chemotherapy first. I just had my 5th of 6 Chemo treatments, and it's kicking my little butt all over the place. Chemo's not much fun.

My father needs me now more than ever, so I'm fighting this as hard as I can so I'll be here for him, as long as possible. He's been my "Knight in Shining Armor" my whole life. He gave me this life; the least I can do is dedicate it back to him now.

Cancer is tough; you can't be a sissy and take this battle on, that's for sure. Respect and love your friend for the battle she's waging; let her know she's not alone, and that you're there with her, as much as you can be.

Hug her, often. Cancer isn't contagious; people with Cancer need lots of hugs. I don't get many, because my Dad doesn't hug much anymore, and I don't have any other family out here ~ either to help me, or to help with him. It's just the two of us against the world.

BUT - the two of us together almost make a whole person! With his aging body and my Chemo-brain? I'll take those odds against anyone, anytime. (LOL!) :-)

I don't know if that answers any of your questions, or not. I hope it gives you a little insight, and maybe a little hope. I have tons of hope; I have to have enough hope for both my father and I. Without hope, this would just be a struggle without any reward, and I won't live that way.

MinPin

i know people who have had it. i know some are still around, some not, and 1 that i am aware of going thru it now and nothing they can do for it. it progressed too far. it comes and goes and each time it comes back, (as you mentioned) it gets worse. i wish her well and keep her in my prayers. i am here if you need to talk. God Bless you both.

Mel,

This is a touchy subject and all though I wish your friend the best of luck, I am going to tell you a story with a not so happy ending.

There was this 26 year old that I became acquanted with through friends. She started out with female cancer, went through many treatments, it spread, and unfortunately kept spreading to many difference places. Her mom had to sell one of their houses to help with medical bills and wanted this poor child to go through every type of cancer procedure there was because she didn't want to lose her daughter.

I am sorry to say that this "Princess" lost her terrible battle with cancer on Easter Sunday. She is no longer in pain. She had spent the last 2-3 years battling the biggest fight of her life and she just couldn't hang on any longer.

I am not saying that your friend will not make it through it but if the cancer has spread like it has, just keep praying and the best you can do for her is let her live her life the way she wants, whether it's battling the fight with chemo or just realizing that she wants to go have fun. Just stand behind her.
