Question: no, there was not a test for hcv until 1990. they didn't isolate the virus until 1988. before that they called it post transfusion hepatitis because they noticed it was not a or b hepatitis. hepatitis c used to be called non-a, non-b hepatitis.

if your thinking that your mother might of had hcv when you were born, if she is still alive ask her to be tested.

No. Transmission from an affected mother usually occurs at the time of birth. The newborn would become positive after the incubation period, which is 4 to 6 weeks for hep.C and 60 to 160 days for hep. B.

No. The Hepatitis C virus wasn't discovered until 1989. So there was no screening test before then.

The Hepatitis B virus was discovered in 1970. Routine Hep B screening didn't start until the vaccine became available.
