Question: that's the problem--definitively proving it one way or another is extremely unethical. to 100% prove that it HIV does cause AIDS we would need to purposely infect people with HIV and every person infected would need to develope AIDS.
what we do know is that every person with AIDS has HIV. some people claim that it is simply another opportunistic infection. they can believe this because there is a small percentage of people that have been infected for over 20 years and have still not developed AIDS.
