Hey Crystal;

I'm the same way, scars here and there. Bruitish life indeed. Anywho, I recently had a sarcoma removed from my bicep (cancer of the muscle), that had 50-something stitches. I learned a lot about scar tissue since then. All the scars and stitches I had from childhood are almost inviable now though. The one on my arm is still a constant reminder and literally a pain. The scar tissue that builds from under the wound is thick and causes the car to raise, which in my case is almost okay since there is a dint in my arm from missing tissue.

What I have to look forward to now is a reddish-pink scar that may look like a burn down my arm that may raise over time. I recently got a skin toner from Clinique that seriously gets rid of such unwanted pigmentations of the skin and stops them from reforming. I started using it on my face too, to get rid of acne scars, and yes, it works. You should continue to expect various forms of nerve pain from itching to small stabbing pains if the wound was deep enough as the tissue continues to develop.

As for the scar tissue itself, there is nothing short of surgery that will smooth out a scar like that, I plan to have my arm worked on since I have to be a bride's maid in a year and my arm is too obvious in a strapless dress ^^.

Your knee injury seems too close to bone/cartilage to be evened out through muscle use, like my arm. You should at the very least see a dermatologist before making any clear decisions on treatment of it, be it cosmetic or otherwise. I may not have had dermatology related classes, since I'm going into neurology, but what I've heard from my Dr's helps.

Bio oil is really good for reducing the apperance of scars and other blemishes. You can get it from most good chemists/pharmacies.
