Some medical advice please?!

Question: i have an abcess ( quite a large one) come up along my c-section scar i have been to see the doctor and he gave me some antibiotics and said that it will most likely burst on its own without the need to be drained and if it does burst just try to get out as much gunk as i can, well it has burst and it is agony, however after all the nasty stuff came out it is bleeding alot but there are alot of air bubbles coming out with the blood , is this normal ??? it looks like the top of a fairy liquid bottle with all the air bubbles ( sorry to explain it like that but that is the only way to explain it ) any advice appreciated.

Get a clean linen tea towel (NOT a fluffy towel) and press it firmly against the bleeding point. If it continues to bleed heavily after a couple of minutes get straight to A&E. I'm guessing it's not really bleeding that much though otherwise you wouldn't be on here...take some paracetamol and an anti-inflammatory such as brufen for the pain. It sounds like it's discharged on its own, the air bubbles are just part of the pus that's coming out and shouldn't be anything to worry about. If you are concerned I'd advise you to ring NHS Direct for more advice.

go to casualty. Wish you better!

i'm no expert but the air bubbles sound like bad news,i would have thought the blood was normal but i think i would have it checked just to be sure

Sounds fairly normal. I had an abscess following an appendicectomy, so I can appreciate how painful it is. Important to keep the area clean, and you may have to have the area packed with gauze at the hospital if there's any residual infection to be drawn out. It'll get better though. Probably a good idea to remain in contact with your doctor to see how it's healing (though I'm sure you are already)

Get a CLEAN cloth, soak it in very hot water, then squeeze off the excess water, and apply to the wound. The pus should all come out then, and it should be OK. Pat the area dry, and put a clean piece of cotton (NOT COTTON WOOL OR ANYTHING FLUFFY) fabric dressing on.

yikes! you should probably go to the ER.

How long ago was the C/section.. are you passing anything vaginally ?

I recommend if it is more painful than expected and the " frothy" sounding discharge is still there.. Keep taking the antibiotics and pain killers but call the Out of Hours GP service tonight.. Regardless of the easing in the bleeding you need some one to look at this tonight.. and problable best to have the GP OOH or an NHS walk in Centre if your in England than sitting for hours in A&E for hours..

Enjoy the baby :-)
