Cure for Insomnia?!


Question: I know I will not stumble upon a panacea by asking this age-old question, but still, some remedies or pratices might ease the chronic sleeplessness that I've been experiencing for the last 3 years.

I've tried limiting caffeine, taking a shower, limiting water before bed, eating peanut butter, eating a light dinner, etc. Nothing seems to work. People tell me meditation is good, but I can not seem to master that at all.

I am very close to giving up and going on medication, even if that means developing tolerance and dependencies.

Any suggestions?

I get restorative sleep most nights now with a combo of meds and supplements. You just can't be functional or healthy without sleep.

Sleep deprivation is used as a form of torture in POW camps, so we know it is bad!! I hope you can find some things that help.

I think that sleep is regulated by a part of the brain called the hypothalamus. My "sleep clock" broke when I was about 16. Maybe it was a virus? Who knows!

lots of exercise and physical activity fixed mine.

you should see a doctor if you haven't already, it could be medical.

sadly...you may only have the choice to go on medication..
i find if i lay in bed for a half an hour before i go to bed and do a short recap of all the good things that happened during the day, i fall asleep..but if i were to watch tv then...psht i would be screwed into being awake all night..
so limit your tv watching before sleeping too..also..make your bed your safe haven..get the tv out of your room..remove the clock..put the laptop away..for more stuff like this go to webmd.com..

Physical activity righ before bed might keep you up longer, but exercizing at some point in the day will help you get a better nights rest.

See a doctor.

breathe normally 10 times also before sleep eat banana, drink lots of warm milk, do not watch or play computer/TV 30 mins before sleep, don't worry about the time just try to relax sleep is when a persona feels tired and layes on the bed and relaxes and goes to sleep and also if you still can't sleep get up read anything boring but do not watch read till u feel sleepy

Hi, i've had insomnia since childhood and i wish i could tell you there's a cure. there really isn't. Later on in life irritable leg syndrom will accompany the insomnia as they seem to go hand in hand with irritable leg syndrome being the side kick to insomnia. I don't drink caffienne at all any more and havn't done so for the past five years. Again i wish i could tell you it helped me but it made no difference at all. Perhaps some of us should get together and create a club for insomniacs along with a chat room for it and a monthly meet up some place Lol. At least we'd all have the same thing in common. I think you've tried everything except exercise. A simple morning walk in the park under the sun helps a whole lot (according to a friend).
Never ever take medication.

Hi, my life was big bag of trouble. Insomnia, stress, anxiety....... I have tried everything from breathing exercise, positive thinking, yoga, meditation.........nothing really worked.
