White spots on fingernail?!

Question: Hi,
My son is 7, he is very healthy, but am a little concearned about white spots on his fingernails, i'm not talking the odd one, most people have them (i have one spot on each of my ring fingernails) i mean every single nail is almost completely covered. Does anyone know what this means and should i be worried? should he see a doctor?

Could be either a calcium deficiency or a mild zinc deficiency. Does he eat a lot of dairy products? If he does, then try giving him foods rich in zinc - e.g. bananas, and see if that helps any. I don't think it's anything too serious, but his body is lacking in something. Perhaps an extra zinc supplement such as a multi-vitamin inc. zinc may be needed.

if i was you i would take him to the doctor, just incase it is a sign of a health problem.
it's probably nothing to worry about, but it would be good for the doctor to check and reassure you.,

There is nothing to be worried about. White spots in the finger nails are the result of bruising. There is much mythology surrounding the cause of white spots in the finger nails.

You can have every confidence that there is nothing medically wrong with you or your son. There must be an activity which is causing the 'bruising' white spots....

Bring him to the doctors right away! I had white spots on my nails as well when i was 6ish and unlikely enough it was a sign of very severe anemia.

Most of the time it just shows a lack of calcium but just in case I would get it checked out.

white spots on nails usually show that a person is missing some minerals in their diet.

The white spots are due to the nail being bumped at some point.
Calcium deficiency is an old wives tale.

If your not sure play safe & take your son to see a doctor he will put your mind at ease if nothing else. It would be a peace of mind for your son aswell. Good luck hope all is well.

Usually its connected with calcuim deficency, get him to drink milk about 1/2 hours before he goes to bed
