Go on a diet. Stay away from the carbs. Exercise and maybe check your blood again in a few months for A1c and glucose.

Trust your doctor

I've been told that any fasting number between 100 - 126 is pre-diabetes. Don't put off making changes just because you don't have diabetes yet ... you really don't want to get it. I would find another doctor who will help you with a diet plan ... or refer you to a dietician.

Blood glucose levels can be confusing when you really are not aware of what they mean or the complete range. I recommend you visit my blog site and print off the Blood Glucose Levels chart which relates HbA1C test results which is the 90 day historical blood glucose levels with daily finger prick blood glucose results.

Diabetics is a very personal condition which is different for each of us. A blood glucose level of 104 is normal, but it is a spot reading only good for the time of the test. You need a fasting test (HbA1C) to better understanding of your expression. I recommend a fasting blood glucose test.

Best Wishes.

Thats a little high. Most doctors consider a fasting blood glucose between 100 and 125 to be prediabetic. Fasting blood glucose over 126 is considered diabetic, but there are more tests they usually do before diagnosing it.

Try the South Beach Diet to lose some weight and reduce your carbs.

Do you have any of these symtoms?

You could have prediabetes, and probably should get retested in 6 months. Next time, ask for a glucose tolerance test, it tells the doctor more about how your body is handling carbs. If he'll co-operate, you should also get an HbA1c done too. If he won't, maybe you need to think about looking for a new doctor. Some doctors don't take it seriously enough, your doctor may be one of them. Its too bad he won't do those tests now, because you really ought to know what's going on. He should be advising you on how you can get this under control now, rather than waiting until it gets worse.

If you do the South Beach Diet or just reduce your carbs to a more moderate level, your blood sugar levels will probably come down, along with your weight.

Gretchen Becker's book is listed on that page. I recommend it and the Diabetes for Dummies book too.
