Question: (we have been togeather for 6 months). While i know it was a mistake and he is in AA now taking the proper measures to build up resolve, I am hurt and worried.
I wanted to know since he shared a pipe what should i do to ensure my health saftey before returning to an intimate relationship with him. Please help.

if he didn't burn his lip with the pipe he should be ok and not infected with anything..(my brothers in rehab for the same thing it sucks i know) anyway..ya the way the infection is spread is through blood comming from the burnt lip...they get so high hey don't care about the burning lip...and it bleeds then they pass it. So have him get tested if your still worried.. a simple blood test can be a life saver. And go with him..get one too to make him more comfortable. Even if your know your good its always good to show support. -hal
At risk for what? Did he use needles? You don't say. Anyway, he isn't really emotionally healthy enough for a relationship. He has an addictive personality. You are for sure asking for many kinds of trouble if you choose to be with someone like this. I'm speaking from direct experience.......mine and those around me who made similar choices. My advice to you......RUN
what are you at risk for when he shared a pipe? pretty much nothing. i mean, you could get a cold or something like that. if he shared needles, then you could be at risk for HIV or hepatitis.

You can't transmit a disease through a pipe get real.
Hepatitis C and B and possibly Herpies simplex 1 can be transferred with a pipe being shared. With Hepatitis C and B there has to be blood on the pipe and that would have to go into an open wound on him. You can only get a virus if someone has it to give. If the relationship is important to him, have him get tested before you get intimate with him again.
