How many of you all had scoliosis surgery?!

Question: did you have fusion or the metal brace on your spine? why did you choose the one you did? How do you feel now..is it painful? Are you glad you did it? any other information will greatley be appreciated. Im 15 and I have pretty severe scoliosis (about 62 degrees)(and it prob. got worse too). But my family is scared to let me have surgery because of all the risks but my orthopedist is reccomending it. I mean i dont have severe pain and its not effecting any of my organs either its just the number that is scary!
**Im starting yoga and going to a chiropractor in a week**

thanks for the info your answer will be greatley appreciated!
god bless!

I had both bracing and surgery. I was in a great deal of pain and the surgery solved it. I would do the same thing if I had to choose all over again.

Yes, the risks are there, but any doctor operating on you should have plenty of experience which minimizes the risks. You probably have a greater chance of paralysis or death from driving your car than getting the surgery. (That's a personal opinion only.)

Chiropractors, message therapists, acupuncturists, etc., also can't fix idiopathic scoliosis. These people adjust the soft, connective tissues and that may (or may not, you can't tell ahead of time) make you feel better, but remember, idiopathic scoliosis is not a connective tissue disease. Your spine is growing curved. I hope that you're not just throwing your money away.

Yoga is good for strengthening your core muscles, but it also won't fix your scoliosis.

Hi. I have scoliosis. im 22 now and ive had it for about 10 years. Ive been many times to the orthopedist who got me to wear a corset kind of thing lol. it was horrible so i gave up pretty quickly. Surgery can be very violent and it has its big risks. even tho you are only 15, and you have a better chance of recover after surgery, its still tough.
Ive tried phisiotherapy which did not work, and then the orthopedist recommended me to try swimming. I can assure you that swimming is much more effective than yoga, as it will strenghten your back muscles and give it flexibility too and it worked very well!!! I also know people who used to have scoliosis and got they'r back fixed through swimming! Ive also been to a chiropractor and After two months there was a really big difference!!! Good luck!!
