HIV advice?!

Question: I recently asked a question about my brother and blood tests that he had to have done. He got his results on Friday and the unbelievable became reality. He is HIV+. We are a very close family and will support him in any way we can. But I am so scared of losing him. I have always felt protective of him as his older sister, but I know there is nothing I can do to make this better! I dont really know what question I am asking here, but if anyone can share their experience of this virus with me, it will help to feel i am not alone. Thankyou x

As long as your brother is getting medical care, there is absolutely no reason he can't live a long, healthy, productive life. I work at an HIV clinic, and have yet to see a person pass away from "AIDS." The medicines we have now to treat HIV are sooo much better than they were ten years ago, that people dying from AIDS just doesn't happen anymore, unless they do not seek treatment. So, make sure your brother keeps seeing his Dr., and in the mean time seek out a support group for yourself. There are a ton out their for family and friends of people who are HIV positive. Hope this helps!

All I know about HIV is it is a virus that attacks the immune system, makes the sufferer more vulnerable to disease. Though there is no vaccine or cure, it is not guaranteed to develop into full blown AIDs, and there are better drugs available today to manage the condition.

bugaboo above gave you the best answer
hiv does not kill it is every day viruses that will get him in time...
sorry man

be supportive and encourage him to stay on his meds, I have seen people who took care of themselves and worked at being as healthy as possible, took their meds and they have been here 10yrs after they were first diagnosed...
there is hope these days but it does take work.. hang in there.

I'm sorry to hear that. But, I can say that there's a hope for HIV+ patient by using ARV (Anti Retroviral), It can prolong and increase their quality of life.

have him re tested
