Nasty smell stuck in my nose for 4 days - PLEASE HELP!?!

Question: I got sick this past week/weekend and got dx'd with an Upper Respiratory Infection. Doc px'd antibiotics, nasal decongestant, and cough suppressant. I have been on the meds for 3 days now. I have had this really nasty smell stuck in my nose for 4 days and it won't go away. No matter where I am or what I am doing, its always there. Everything I eat or drink tastes like the smell. Its making me physically ill at times. Anyone know how to get rid of it? I have tried flushing with salt water and only get about 2 minutes of relief. HELP ME PLEASE! I can't take the smell anymore!

Sounds like an infection in the maxillary sinus. Sometimes cysts can cause this. But because you have been sick, it is most likely an infection. You really do not want to let this go. Go back to the doctor and follow his advice. The nose is just too close to the brain to take chances. And those antibiotics you are on, be sure and take all of them, even if you begin to feel better, too many people start to feel better, and try to save the medication for another bout of cold or flu. This kills off the weak bacteria, but the strong bacteria survive and build up a resistance. If this lasts more than a week more, the doctor may want to do a 3 dimensional ct scan of your sinuses. Keep him informed.
