Answers: My mom is waiting on a doctor to answer this question and needs to know before the 14th so she can proceed with the rest of the things she needs to take care!

It is a condition that can be the starting of liver disease.
Macro means large
Globular means made up of globules
Steato means fat
sis at the end means condition.

Put together it means:
a condition of large globules of fat.

This can also be known as Fatty liver.
There are different kinds of fatty liver.

Some people are told to lose weight and
can reverse this condition. However,
not all people can do this and reverse,
for some may be caused by hereditary problems.

Let me explain this further and then I will
give you a very good link to read about
all this:
Fat can accumulate between the cells and
in the cells of the liver. This puts undo
pressure on the cells and can push things
inside the cells to the side, like the nucleus.
IF a person loses weight when the doctor
tells them to, the fat will disappear and
no longer cause a problem. However,
if the fat cannot be removed, it can cause
the cells to suffer and damage the cells.
The immune system will then step in to
try an repair the damage. When this happens, it causes inflammation inside
the liver. This is not good. Inflammation is
suppose to help the body, but in this case...
the fat and the inflammation both cause the
cells of the liver distress then. There is
a capsule around the liver that tries to
keep the liver a normal size...now it is
being stretched. Inflammation causes
the liver to start to swell in size.
This disease is then changed from
steatosis to NASH...which is
non alcoholic steatohepatitis.
Steato is fat and hepati is liver and
itis is infection/inflammation. So it is a
Non alcoholic fatty liver inflammation...
this is definitely a disease.

It is best now that your mom talk to the
doctor about the cause, whether there is
any swelling of the liver and also to follow
anything the doctor may say.
All liver patients are told to tell the doctor
all medications they are on: this include
over the counter, herbs, herbal teas,
vitamins, minerals and medications prescribed by other doctors. They should
not take any medication now except what
the doctor orders for them to take.

Here is a link with a number of different
pages to tell you more about this, should
this advance to NASH.

A fatty liver can also be caused by
alcohol consumption. All liver patients
should refrain from any alcohol use.

I hope this has helped you understand
