Worried about mother in law?!

Question: Although I have neevr really gotten along with my husband mother I am beginning to get worried about her. She is known for popping pills she seems to always be in the hospital for something. Broken foot, broken hand, broken leg, broken arm, she has hep- c so i dont know if that makes bones brittle or not. Over the course of 4 years i have watched her go down hill really fast her last vist here for my sons bday she showed up completely wasted. She has a morphine pump inside her and she is also popping pills but i believe she isn ot supposed to be on any other pain medication. i dont even understand what the pain pump is really for. It was so bad that she could hardly walk, she could not hold a conversation, and she drifts off to sleep while u are trying to talk to her. Her face is unbelieveably swelling. Her new husband obviously isnt doing anything about it and my husband doesnt know what to do. Is there anything I can do? She has hurt a lot of people in the family in the past and no

I'm not a doctor, however it sounds as though when she started on the pain medication she may have formed an addiction. Although with the hep she may have been a drug user in the past (perhaps she got the hep from needle sharing, however that would just be an assumption.)

If she's utilizing a morphine pump and taking pain pills on top of that, she may be hopping around from one doc to another, to the ER, or wherever she can get the meds from - typically filling them at drugstores that have no affiliation so it goes undetected.

If you know the information for her doctor, you may want to tell your husband that he has to discuss this information with the doctor as he's immediate family. If not, then you may want to speak with your local police station, ask for someone from narcotics to be sent to your home and explain the situation to them. This also helps by taking it out of the family's hands and allowing the police to do their job. They will have to find her professional help (whether or not she faces criminal charges) whether it be a medical facility or a mental facility or a detox facility. It may wind up hurting other family members, so you may just want to call them anonomously and not mention to others that you stepped up to the plate to get her the help she needs.

Best of luck to you!

are you telling your husband what you think is going on and he needs to see what is going on with his mom by taking her to get a second opinion it sounds like she has become dependent on pain killers and she needs help since her hubby doesn't give a f@$&
