My Girl Has Herpes?!

Question: Okay so I met this girl pretty recently, and we've already rounded all the bases. I'm really into her, and her into me. I called her today, and asked if she wanted to go hang out tomorrow. She said she doesn't want to go out for a week, I inquired why and found out she has a cold sore.

Should I be worried? I really like this girl, and don't want to stop seeing her... but is my health at risk? Can I get herpes even when she doesn't have an outbreak? Please any serious advice is welcome.

To add on, it is actually possible to get either Herpes virus (simplex 1 or 2) in your mouth, and they will both cause cold sores.
Most infections are passed on when someone comes into contact with a cold sore or the fluid from a cold sore during an outbreak.
It is important to remember, though, that it is still possible to pass on an infection even when an outbreak is not occurring. So in the end, you are taking a bit of a risk, but as has been said, a lot of people have cold sores but are otherwise very healthy.
If you have any type of immune disorder, I would be much more concerned about your risk of picking up this virus.

One other thing, is I think you should give her some kudos for being honest with you about this. That shows that she's mature, responsible, and that she is also thinking about your health too. Good stuff! Hope this helps.

A very large portion of the population has Herpes simplex 1 (the kind on your mouth) you really don't have anything to worry about she's probably just really self conscious and would be embarrassed if anyone saw her. As long as her mouth doesn't come in contract with your genitals or her saliva doesn't get in that area, you're good.

Always use protection when sleeping with someone with herpes. When she has an outbreak keep it in your pants, your health isnt work it.

just don't treat her like a leper. u can still see her u will just have to take some precautions around her. like not having oral sex, or kissing when she has a cold sore, also don't share things (like drinks, utensils things that go from one mouth to the other) with her when she has a cold sore. u can get herpes if she doesn't have an outbreak but the risk is like 2% compared to the 100% when she does have one. there will be inconvenient times but if u like her that much u can still see her and hav a relatioship with her, just keep the above in mind. by the way condoms are not very efective against herpes, if she gives u oral and licks somewhere where the condom doesn't cover then u have a chance of getting herpes.
