Random Asthma attack as an adult after 15 years w/o one...?!

Question: I had Asthma as a child, and was prescribed three inhalers. My mum used to have to drive me around in the middle of the night with popsicles, as most the inhalers and other treatment never helped.

I started swimming competitively at age 8, and the Asthma went away. This has been known to happen in some cases, wherin the lungs become stronger and more able.

I have mild allergies. I rarely ever take anything for them. I dont like medicines, and dont take aspirin unless Ive broken a bone or have a fever.

Im not in perfect shape... but Im 5'7, 145 llbs, 21 years old. And I have been going to the gym 4-5 days a week since Christmas.

Before that I was on the Varsity Swim Team, Varsity Water Polo team, and setting records for the high school. Not boasting, just trying to convey that activity has never affected me or my lungs.

I have been around it all, and have been smoking weed (no, I dont need your opinion) for YEARS since I was 16. It has NEVER affected me.

your O2 stats dropped below there norm. Though you state that you never have been diagnosed with asthma but was given the inhaler as a child for preventive measures, I would suggest you go back to your DR and talk to him about your episode. There might be more going on than just a lung issue. Have him or her do a full physical on you up to including your heart. No doubt your a very competitive individual as well athletic but to continue in your venture of your sports get this done for your own sake.
Good luck !

Asthma never goes away...it just goes into remission. Which means there is always the potential for a flare. You have been lucky that yours has been in remission/inactive for such a long period. Make any appointment with your doctor to have pfts ran. You may need maitanence medications or at the very least an albuterol mdi.

I have environmental asthma which can stay dormant for some time. I went years without an asthma attack and then went to the health club. There I had a very large one - and it was caused by the cleaning solution they used on the machine right before I went on it. My asthma also came back when they were doing mild construction on my office building - I couldnt enter the building until the work was done and all the vents were cleaned. This may be very well what happened to you.
